So Marcus' sickness was NOT what I thought it was. A few weeks back I noticed a white patch on his tongue. It didn't seem to bother him and looked like the aftermath of a bad tongue biting so I didn't think anything of it. Then the fevers started and I assumed it was just the same thing Jamie had had only days earlier. Then I got a look at his tongue when he was screaming as I was forcing Ibuprofen on him. The patch was about 3 times the size. Then I started realizing that it wasn't that Marcus just wasn't eating, he would take a bite and then start crying and refuse more. He would ask for a drink, take one sip and then cry and push it away. Obviously his mouth was hurting him. At first I thought maybe it was just his throat that was hurting him but when he even refused a popsicle I got worried.
I took a pic of his tongue and posted it on Facebook to ask my friends and most of them thought it was thrush which sounded right to me. I called Sabe who pulled some strings and he came to get us. We then spent the next two and a half hours in the ER at Ireland Army Community Hospital where both boys were crying because they were bored, tired, one was getting poked and prodded and the other was feeding off him. It was a nightmare really. And Ireland misdiagnosed Marcus. They told me that the fevers and the tongue were unrelated, that they were both viruses and even though I told them multiple times that Marcus hadn't eaten anything in 2 days nor had he drank anything that day, they told me I would have to wait it out. It actually went something like this:
"It's viral [blahblahblah]"
"So that means I'm gonna just have to wait it out?"
" Oh you're one of those people that want a quick fix, huh"
"As a mother yes. My child hasn't eaten anything in two days and keeps refusing drinks and you're telling me I have to wait it out for an untold amount of time?"
The dr's at Ireland are a piece of work I tell you. I've not seen the same one twice and every time I go in, someone says something idiotic to me. Anyways, so I called Dr. S. in the morning and got an appointment. He looked into his mouth and immediately said "That's not thrush!" and then after about 30 more seconds of looking, told me that it was an infection. He also told me that the ER dr's at Ireland are idiots :). He said that when I thought he had bitten his tongue I was probably right and then it got infected instead of getting better.
So I got sent home with a script for some antibiotics and Miracle Mouthwash. It's a numbing mouthwash thing that I have to rub on the infected spot to help get him to eat and drink. He didn't eat, but he drank after it so that's good!
We had Jamesen's 6 month well check at the same time. It was funny because one of the nurses saw him standing up and she was like "Wow he's so tiny! How old is he?" and I when I told her he was 6 months she kind blinked at me and was like "Wow I though he was closer to 10 months the way he's standing there like that!" Made me laugh. Specially since he's big for his age. He's in the 90th for height! 28.5 inches and 18 lbs 14 oz. Which is a two inch gain in two months [WOW!] and almost 3 lbs! He's such a chunker. I can't remember what his head circumference is, but it was off the charts, lol! Marcus at 6 months was 15 lbs 15 oz and 27 inches. He wasn't 19 lbs until a year old! Jamesen is going to take him in height and weight some day I just know it.
He's also going to give me gray hairs before I hit 25
Climbing VidAnyways, that's it for now. I'll keep you updated on Marcus. Prayers that he gets better fast and starts eating again would be appreciated. He can't afford to lose any more weight than he already has!
